That could be multiple things causing that. In order for me to better answer your question 1) what version of windows are you using 2) are you using the most up to date driver for your writer (USB writers have aftermarket drivers) that was downloaded right from the website 3) have you updated your USB HCI (host controller interface) driver? 4) have you tried plugging the drive into different ports (there is more than 1 usb controller on a system generally and sometimes a product will work 100% on one but not another.
Your best bet is definately to update all drivers then go from there. If you can give us that info then we will be able to better answer your question
My CD Burner is an Iomega CD_RW 52x24x52--but I think it just copies at 4x speed due tot the fact that my USB is a 1.2 instead of a 2.0. I have a HP Pavillion 6833 that runs win98SE. I have 128ram and 568mg with 20g memory-I run DSL--any of this make sense? And thanks geek for the prompt return
3) update windows with all possible updates except the language packs using windows update
4) try a different USB port
Those 4 repairs would fix any hardware/compatibility issues you may have. In order to fix any software issues you may have please do this for me:
1) hit start
2) click run
3) type 'msconfig' and hit ok
4) click the startup tab
5) post a reply here with the name of every item under 'startup items,' when you do that I will process the items and see if there may be something there hanging your system on shutdown.
